In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how you can add channels and also remove channels on your Roku device. This works on the Roku device itself, on the web and on your smartphone with the Roku app.
What are Roku Channels?
Roku Channels are essentially apps, however Roku sees itself as a cable box. So it refers to these streaming services as channels, instead of apps. So what you might call an app on a Chromecast or Apple TV, is basically a channel on Roku. It can be a bit confusing for some people, but it is still pretty easy to identify what a channel is on the Roku platform.
How to add channels to Roku
There are three ways to add channels to your Roku device. That is on your Roku device itself, through the web and then through the Roku app on your smartphone. We’ll show you how to do all three.
Add channels on your Roku device
First up, select the Streaming Channels menu on the home screen. Find the channel or app that you want to add to your Roku device and click on that. Next, select the Add Channel option. If it is not a free option, there will be a Buy option there too. Now the new channel will be added to your home screen within seconds – depending on how fast your internet is. And that’s it.
Add channels on the web
On the web, you can head to the Roku Channel Store here. From there, you will need to login to your account. Now you can use categories or the search channel box to find what you’re looking for. Then you can click Details next to a channel to learn more. There will be an “Add Channel” button available for each Channel. Just click on that, and it’ll be installed on your Roku device. And that’s it.
Add channels on your smartphone
On the Roku app on your smartphone, go ahead and open the app. Next, from the Home tab, you can enter the name of the channel you want to add. Then tap on the correct result and select “Add Channel”. If you have a PIN enabled on your account, you may need to enter that to install it. That’s all there is to it.
How to remove channels from Roku
Like with adding channels, there are also three ways to remove channels from your Roku account. Via your own Roku device, via the Roku Channel Store and through your smartphone with the Roku app. Here’s how you can do all three.
Removing channels using your Roku
From your Roku’s home screen, find the channel you want to delete. Next, push the asterisk button on your remote. Navigate to “Remove Channel” and select that. It’ll ask to confirm you want to remove the channel, confirm it and then it’s gone. And that’s all there is to it.
Removing channels from the Roku Channel Store
Within your Roku device, you can also remove channels from the Channel Store. Just head over to the channel you want to remove. Then choose “Remove Channel”. This is a good option to use if you’re having a problem with an app like HBO MAX. As you can easily remove and add it within seconds. And that’s it.
Removing channels from the Roku mobile app
To remove channels from the Roku mobile app, head to the Home tab. From there, tap on the channel you want to remove. Then navigate down to “Remove Channel” and choose that. Next, you’ll be asked to confirm you want to remove that channel. Then you’re all set. That channel has been removed.
