In a blog post from 343 Industries back on Friday March 4, the studio talks about game updates. Breaking down what the teams are currently working on with regard to future Halo Infinite content. This includes addressing issues that are “negatively impacting the player experience.” Beyond that, 343 says that it still plans to deliver season 2 on May 3 as originally promised. However, co-op will no longer be a part of that launch as the team is still continuing to work on it and the Halo Forge.
Halo Infinite co-op could still launch in season 2
Although the co-op campaign is going to end up missing its May 3 launch date, 343 says it still plans to deliver it sometime in season 2. The studio doesn’t give a tentative release date this time. But it does mention that co-op has been in constant development alongside season 2, the Halo Forge, and the upcoming season 3 that should drop this Summer. According to the studio, the longer development cycle comes down to quality. It wants to ensure everything is up to par. Halo Infinite takes place in a massive open world setting compared to past games. So the team simply needs more time to make sure that 4-player network co-op and 2-player split-screen co-op are “high-quality and full-featured.” With all of that said, the team plans to share more details about a launch date for co-op down the line.
Halo Forge will have public testing later this year
In addition to co-op, the Forge has been the other highly anticipated mode. 343 is actually currently testing the Forge with a small number of content creators. It also plans to do public tests later this year. In terms of a release, 343 says its current goal of shipping Forge with season 3 is still on track. That means players will probably see the Forge arrive sometime in late Summer. Assuming season 2 lasts about three months.
