This will be the first redesign to the Google Store web client in a few years. It rearranges some of the UI elements to clean up the interface. What’s most notable about this change is the dedicated Watches section. According to 9To5Google, the top bar of the UI has some changes to it. Now, you’ll see the sections laid out in this order: Phones, Watches, Smart Home, Gaming, Laptops, Subscriptions, and Offers.
The ‘Watches’ section in the Google Store could point to the Pixel Watch
This might seem like a stretch to some people, but when it comes to future devices, we want to make sure to cover all of the bases. With the old design, there was a dedicated Fitbit section. You’d go there to see the full list of watches offered by Google and Fitbit, but now, there’s a section labeled just Watches. This generalizes the section to include more than just Fitbit’s products. We don’t have any news of Google acquiring any other watch manufacturers. Also, the only other watch rumored to come from Google is the Pixel Watch. This could mean that the Pixel may possibly occupy the section with the Fitbit watches. We’ll have to wait and see if this is actually going to happen. The Pixel Watch is rumored to launch alongside the Pixel 6a later on this year, but that can change any minute. The Pixel 6a just received FCC certification, so we can be sure that we’ll see that phone, but we’re still chasing shadows with the Pixel Watch. We might have to wait until Google I/O for more information on this.
There are other changes with the redesign
With the older Google store design, when you’d click on a section, an overlay would drop down with sub-sections you could choose from. Now, when you click on a section, you’ll be taken right to a page with the products. From there, you can navigate to where you want to go. The redesign is active now, so if you want to see it for yourself, you can now. If you’re anxious about news regarding the Pixel Watch or Pixel 6a, you should check out Google I/O. The event is only a few weeks away. It will start on Wednesday, May 11th and end on Thursday, May 12th.
