First spotted by 9to5Google, each autocomplete suggestion now appears inside. Earlier, it was a list of text against a background. It has been this way for years but Google is now preparing for a much-needed change. The top two corners of the top-most item and the bottom two corners of the bottom-most item are rounded to make the whole suggestion list look softer. The spacing between any two suggestions is also marginally wider, the new report reveals. The indent on the left and right sides is wider as well. Based on the screenshots shared, the font size of the text appears to be a bit bigger too. These changes make the touch targets a little taller and easier to access. If you’re repeating a query, the “clock” icon denoting the item on the suggestion list now sits inside a circular housing of its own, within the card. Of course, the overall functionality doesn’t change. It’s just an aesthetic overhaul that looks more modern and better fits the Material You design language Google introduced with Android 12 last year. As said earlier, this redesign will also make it to the on-device Pixel Launcher search experience on Android 13. The current beta release for the Google app is reportedly an A/B test limited to a small group of users. A wider rollout should follow in the coming weeks or months. We will keep you posted. Note that the changes are only applicable to devices running Android 13. Users on Android 12 or older will not get the redesigned autocomplete suggestions list in Google Search.

Android 13 will bring plenty of other aesthetic changes

This redesign of the autocomplete suggestions list in Search is just the tip of an iceberg when it comes to aesthetic changes that Android 13 will bring to your Android smartphone. Google is changing system animations, widgets, media player controls, and various other system UI elements. The new Android version is currently available to Pixel users in beta. OnePlus also recently opened an early preview program of its custom Android 13-based software. You can expect other OEMs such as Samsung and Xiaomi to launch their own Android 13 beta programs soon. The stable release will arrive this fall.
