In case you don’t know about this feature, Memories are a way for you to rediscover some of your older photos uploaded to Google Photos. When you open the app, you’ll see some cards up top that show you some of the photos you’ve taken in the past. You’ll see cards with pictures you’ve taken on that day a certain number of years ago. You’ll also see highlights for the month and more.
Memories are getting a major update with new features
Today, Google announced an update coming to Memories that fans should enjoy. For starters, the company is going to add more videos to your memories so you can relive those. When it comes to longer videos, the program will take highlights from the video and show them in the story. Next, Memories will make your still photos more dynamic. When you view photos in your Memories, they will all have a subtle zoom effect added. This keeps them from feeling so static when you’re looking at them. Adding to that, Google will also add music to your photos. The company says that it will add some instrumental music to add to the whole aesthetic. The Cinematic Photos feature will also breathe life into your pictures. This will take multiple photos and put them together to make a 3D effect. It will make the subject and background move independently of each other.
Google Photos will also let you share your Memories. This will come in handy if there’s a highlight that you want to send to other people. Only Android users can use this feature for the time being, and iOS compatibility will come later. Last, but not least, Google Photos is introducing a new collage editor. With this, you’re able to select whichever photos you want and create a collage out of them right in the app. You’ll just need to select the photos you want and choose the design you want (some of the designs were made by notable artists). If you’re not happy with how the pictures look, don’t worry, you can edit them right from the collage editor. If you’re a Google One member or a Pixel user, then you’ll have access to more editing tools like Portrait and HDR. You’ll also have access to 30 additional designs. This update to Memories is rolling out today.
