A ceramic Pixel smartphone may be in the cards for Google
The tipster went to Weibo to reveal that Foxconn will manufacture two upcoming Pixel phones. The devices in question are a “Pixel flagship”, and the company’s foldable. This is a bit weird, though. Google relocated manufacturing to Vietnam, so we expected both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro to be manufactured there. The company either changed its mind, or this is the third Pixel flagship, the Pixel 7 Ultra, or something of the sort. That sure is a possibility. In any case, the tipster claims that this flagship is made out of ceramic. That probably means it will include a ceramic backplate, or something of the sort. The Google Tensor 2 will fuel the device, and a 2K display is expected. He also mentioned that the device will include a 50-megapixel camera, and Sony’s IMX787 sensor. That IMX787 sensor is reserved for a telephoto camera, as Google will stick to the iSOCELL GN1 main unit for all flagship phones this year.
This rumor does create a lot of confusion
This rumor managed to create a lot of confusion, actually. The tipster specifically mentioned one flagship phone, not two of them. Will Google use ceramic for the Pixel 7 Pro, but not for the 7, or is the device in question the Pixel 7 Ultra? Well, we don’t know, but chances are that the Pixel 7 Ultra is not coming. Google specifically mentioned two phones during Google I/O this year, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. There is still a slight chance the ‘Ultra’ was kept a secret for a reason. It’s not as likely, though. The company’s foldable is what many people will find interesting, though. We still don’t know if it will launch at the same time as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, though, or if will Google host a separate event for it. It is expected to drop this year, though.
