Drive audit logs will show when external users affect your files
Understandably, when you own a Drive for your business, you’d want to share your files for others to view. However, you’d also want to know just what everyone is doing with those files. If you share your files purely for viewing purposes, then, ostensibly, no one should be copying or moving them. Google just announced a new feature coming to Google Drive that will help you keep track of what’s going on. When someone within or without your company does anything to affect your files, you’ll get a notice in your Drive audit logs. This involves when a file is moved, copied, has its ACL changed, and other actions. This feature will be available for Google Workspace users who have the Drive audit logs enabled, and it’ll be automatically enabled when it launches. Having it enabled automatically should be a good move, as anyone who owns a company drive would want to monitor it.
This feature is coming soon
On the blog, Google mentioned that this feature is set for a rapid rollout. The company made this a priority rollout, and that’s a great thing. So, this feature should be fully rolled out within the next two weeks. If you don’t see it just yet, don’t worry. It just started rolling out yesterday, so it will be done by the 17th of March. You also need to remember that you need Drive audit logs enabled on your account.
