Naturally, you’ll be able to do these things on other Wear OS 3 watches too. But that won’t be for a while as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series will be the only watches on the platform for about a year. As part of the highlighted features, Google positions being able to use the watch to pay for things in multiple countries using Google Pay. Samsung Pay will also be available on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. So you can use whichever one you want.
The new Google Pay app will be available on more than just the Galaxy Watch 4
While Wear OS 3 will be exclusive to the Galaxy Watch 4 for a while, the new Google Pay app will not. Google notes in the Wear OS by Google Help Community that it’s updating the Google Pay app on Wear OS 2. Which means current Wear OS smartwatches should already see these changes coming in. The new version of the app isn’t a whole lot different from the current version. But it does add minor touches like the G Pay logo and a more streamlined design of the user interface. Which in turn should make it simpler and more convenient to use. That’s not a bad thing considering you probably want to pay for things and move when you’re at the checkout stand. As opposed to standing there trying to fiddle with the watch for an extra minute or two. In addition to the new Google Pay app, Google also highlights the use of Google Maps for navigation, as well as the newly redesigned Messages app for communicating with your contacts. And, you can now listen to music through YouTube Music in addition to services like Spotify. Of course these are all things that were expected. Since the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic do run on Wear OS 3.
