The camera hardware on the Pixel 6 series sees a big upgrade compared to last generation Pixel phones. A recent report by 9to5Google confirms Google is adding a color temperature slider on the camera app of Pixel 6 series phones. Notably, this feature is already live on the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The color temperature slider in the Google Camera app is located on the other side of the contrast and brightness sliders on the interface. As far as the functionality of the feature is concerned, it basically lets you set the color temperature of the scene. You can adjust the color temperature to warm or cool by moving the slider up or down.
There’s no clarity if the color temperature slider feature will arrive for other Pixel phones
Tweaking the color science using the color temperature slider allows you to capture the right tone of the scenario. The feature definitely brings dramatic color changes when used at higher levels. Apparently, this is not a new feature and usually, it is available inside the photo editing tool. Not many would find it necessary or useful, but it could come handy in harsh lighting situations. According to the source, the feature is codenamed “chameleon”, which is apt for this feature. There is no clarity or guarantee if Google plans to bring this feature to other Pixel devices or not. The reasons could very well be that Google wants to keep it a Pixel 6 series exclusive or it may be tied up to the newly installed Google Tensor chip. It’s still early days to judge the camera performance of the Google Pixel 6 series. As Google may be a few updates away from fixing some early problems. The Pixel 6 is shipping now from the Google Store and other major retailers.
