The company is already using the equipment needed to produce OLED panels with the 2nd gen UDC tech, a user said on Naver Blog (via). Since there’s no official confirmation from Samsung yet, we recommend you to take this report with a grain of salt. Besides, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 won’t arrive until August 2022, so a lot could change between now and then. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first Samsung device to offer an under-display camera. Even though we’re still some distance away from Samsung’s fourth-generation foldable, we’ve come across a bunch of exciting information about the device. A recent leak indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could miss out on the rumored S Pen slot. Samsung is expected to take a final call on the design of the foldable by March 2022.

Samsung could use a dual-sided fingerprint scanner with the Galaxy Z Fold 4

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 could also introduce lighter hinges to improve the folding mechanism. The two foldables could also bring improved water and dust resistance. Additionally, the company is reportedly going to improve the battery capacity as well. The company was recently awarded a patent for a dual-sided under-display fingerprint scanner designed for foldables. Samsung could be keen to include this new technology with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Taking these reports into account, there’s plenty to look forward to from the 2022 Samsung foldables. Early iterations of Samsung foldables failed to leave a big imprint on the mobile industry. But things have changed significantly since then. In fact, the company is looking to produce and ship more units of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 than their predecessors. Samsung could be looking to produce at least 10 million units of the foldables in Q3 and Q4 of 2022. It’s worth noting that devices like the Microsoft Surface Duo and the Mi MIX Fold also offer foldable screens. However, these devices aren’t widely available, making Samsung the undisputed leader in the segment (for now).
