The Z Fold 3 gets tortured in a new video that popped up on YouTube. Zack submitted the phone to its usual series of tests. The phone has a duration of around 11 minutes, and it’s embedded below the article.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 did really well in a series of durability tests
When it comes to scratch resistance, the phone’s outer display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus. It scratches at a level six, as do most modern flagships. That display also comes with a hole punch for the camera, and that camera is also protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus… needless to say. When it comes to the inner display, well, we have a different story altogether. That display is much easier to scratch. It still scratches at a level two, with deeper grooves at a level three. So be careful with that display. And yes, your fingernail still can leave some marks on the panel. Granted that is just a plastic layer on top of the display, but it’s not exactly meant to be removed. It’s not exactly the same as a plastic protector on a regular display, this one is kind of a part of the display, so don’t remove it.
The device has support for an S Pen, but only for the new one
The new S Pen, that the company released with the Z Fold 3 and for the Z Fold 3, can be safely used (as expected). Zack tried to put more pressure on it than anyone else would have (during normal use), and the marks that it leaves go away soon after. You can also see what lies inside the S Pen in the video provided below. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with a frame made out of metal, as are its buttons. You’ll see all that beauty scratched in the video, just for proof it really is metal. Now, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not dustproof. Zack did spill quite a bit of dust on the phone just for that reason, to see how will the phone handle it. You definitely shouldn’t do it. The device is, however, water resistant, though. The phone even managed to handle all that dirt, the hinge didn’t start making any weird sounds. The phone’s back side is also protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus, in case you were wondering. It took the phone about 14 seconds for the pixels on its secondary display to shut down after being exposed to flame. The inner display lasted twice as long being exposed to flame, before it turned yellow. The plastic surface on top of it didn’t get damaged, though, which is quite interesting.
Its fingerprint scanner works even when scratched
This handset has a side-facing fingerprint scanner, which managed to work just fine even after being seriously scratched. That’s always a good thing, as it proves its durability. What’s interesting is that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 managed to survive the bend test as well. The Z Fold 2 did as well, but the original Galaxy Fold did not. Something did snap while bending the phone (while unfolded), but nothing on the outside got broken, and the phone continued to work just fine. All in all, the Z Fold 3 did really well in a series of durability tests.
