The report adds that the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S8 are the fastest Samsung phones to top the one million sales mark in South Korea. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have more or less matched that pace. The new foldables have become so popular in Samsung’s homeland that the company even extended the early activation period for the pre-ordered units. The Korean behemoth reportedly received 920,000 pre-orders for the two phones within a week. As many as 270,000 Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 units were activated on the first day of the early activation period. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is reportedly more popular between the two. The clamshell folding phone has accounted for two-thirds of the total sales so far in South Korea. Well, that’s to be expected considering how well-priced the phone is for a foldable. Samsung sees foldables as the future of smartphones

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have been in great demand since the pre-order days in August. Samsung had previously revealed that the pre-orders for the phones surpassed the all-time foldable sales figure in no time. That’s quite an achievement. The Thom Browne editions of the device also got sold out in just five minutes in Taiwan. More than a month into their launch, the two foldables are still selling in high numbers across the globe. And that spells good for Samsung plans. The company sees the foldable form factor as the way forward for smartphones. The Korean giant is so invested in foldable smartphones that it is willing to cancel other conventional devices in favor of them. The hugely popular Galaxy Note series, for instance. Yes, the chip shortage is to be blamed for this, but Samsung had a choice between canceling the new foldables or the Note. And guess what, it made its choice clear. The company is seemingly willing to sacrifice another fan-favorite, the Galaxy S21 FE, in favor of foldables as well. Time will tell whether these strategic decisions will deliver the results Samsung is hoping for.
