As of this writing, the Galaxy Z Flip is receiving the March SMR (security maintenance release) in a handful of South American countries. It should also be available to users in other regions over the next few days or weeks. The new firmware version for the phone is F700FXXS8FCV1. Since One UI 4.1 is not part of this update, there’s not much to look forward to here in terms of new features or user-facing changes. But when it comes to security fixes, the March SMR contains a lot of them. According to Samsung’s monthly security bulletin, this month’s patch fixes over 50 vulnerabilities. The majority of them were found in Google’s version of Android. But there are several Samsung-exclusive fixes as well. As for the One UI 4.1 update, we expect it to be available for Galaxy Z Flip users before the end of this month, at least in some markets. The latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android software brings several new features. We have a Grammarly-integrated Samsung Keyboard, enhanced Object Eraser, automatic photo optimization before sharing, and a bunch of new camera features. The said camera features are device-specific but the Galaxy Z Flip will also get at least one of them. March update released to the Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung, as usual, was the first Android OEM to release the March security patch to its devices. The rollout began in the last week of February, with the Galaxy S22 series picking it up first. Over the past three weeks, the new SMR has reached several other Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy Z Flip is also joining the party today. While the availability is still limited to the South American region, it shouldn’t be long before it reaches other markets. However, since these OTA (over the air) updates are released incrementally, it could take a few days for all eligible units in a region to receive the update. Your phone should notify you about the OTA release once available. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app, under the Software update menu.
