With a dimension of 20 x 30mm, this sensor is significantly larger than the 4 x 9mm unit employed by the Galaxy S22 series. The latter is already pretty good and accurate. But an even larger scanning area means much quicker reading of fingerprints with fewer misreads. You don’t have to precisely place your finger in one spot for authentication. The sensor offers One Tap enrollment and supports simultaneous authentication of two fingers. Qualcomm claims an incredibly low false acceptance rate (FAR) of 1:250000. Meaning that only one out of every 250000 fingerprint readings may be falsely accepted. Thanks to built-in anti-spoofing, the sensor will also protect you from imposters using a fake mold of your finger. The Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max also works in all conditions, such as dry, wet, and contaminant exposure. Of course, the performance may be affected if fingers are wet, but it’ll still work faster than legacy solutions. The Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max has been out for some time now. It is already found on phones like the Vivo X80 Pro and the iQOO 9 Pro. But Samsung hasn’t used it on any of its phones yet. It could finally employ the gigantic fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S23 series next year. The source of this information specifically states that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will employ the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max. However, the entire Galaxy S22 lineup this year shipped with the same unit. As such, we expect Samsung to equip the vanilla Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ with the upgraded fingerprint sensor as well. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.
The 200MP camera sensor will be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 Ultra
While we await more concrete information regarding the ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner for the Galaxy S23 series, it’s pretty much confirmed that Samsung will only equip the Ultra model with a 200MP primary rear camera. The company has already placed component orders for the new image sensor, which it has yet to unveil. Supposedly called ISOCELL HP2, it should be Samsung’s most refined 200MP smartphone camera yet. We will keep you posted about it as and when more information emerges.
