As of this writing, the latest SMR (security maintenance release) is available to Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ users in Switzerland, SamMobile has confirmed. The OTA (over the air) update should soon reach more countries in Europe as well as other regions. The new firmware version will be N975FXXS7GVB1 or something along that line. According to Samsung’s official security bulletin, the February 2022 SMR contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. These include security flaws found in both Google’s version of Android as well as the Korean firm’s custom skin, i.e. One UI. The company has labeled several vulnerabilities to be of “critical” severity. If exploited in the wild, these flaws could allow attackers to cause significant damages to Galaxy smartphone users. All of these security fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+, both of which are reaching their end of life. Launched back in 2019, the two S Pen-wielding Samsung flagships came running Android 9 Pie out of the box and have already received the promised three major Android OS updates, i.e. Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12. They will now only receive security updates, at least for one more year.
Samsung releases February security update to more Galaxy devices
Samsung has picked up the pace with the February security update rollout for its devices. Yesterday, it released the new SMR to the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S10 Lite, and the Galaxy S20 FE. Today, we have a few more Galaxy smartphones joining the party. Along with the Galaxy Note 10 duo, the Galaxy A32 and Galaxy M31 are also receiving this month’s security update. The latest SMR has already rolled out to the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy A50s, and the Galaxy A51. You can expect more Samsung devices to pick up the new security update in the coming days. Meanwhile, if you’re using any of the aforementioned Galaxy smartphones, the latest update should be available to you anytime now if it hasn’t already. Look out for a notification in the coming days. You can also head over to Settings > Software update on your phone and tap on Download and install to manually check for the OTA update.
