The Galaxy Fold is receiving tons of new features and enhancements with this update. One UI 4.0 packs all the goodies that are part and parcel of Android 12. Additionally, we have plenty of tweaks and add-ons from Samsung as well. You can check out the full changelog to find out what’s in store. Some of these features may not trickle down to the Galaxy Fold but most will. The latest update also bundles the December 2021 Android security patch.
The original Galaxy Fold receives its last major Android update
The Galaxy Fold marked the beginning of a new era for smartphones. Though the Royole Flexpai officially claims the title of the world’s first commercially available foldable smartphone, it was Samsung’s first foldable that made this unique form factor popular. It didn’t have a smooth entry into the market due to some oversight on the Korean firm’s part, but that’s another story. Almost every major Android OEM is now developing a foldable smartphone, with the likes of Motorola, Oppo, and Huawei already having at least one product in the market. Samsung, meanwhile, has launched four more foldables over the past couple of years — Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 3. All of these phones have received the stable One UI 4.0 update this month. The original Galaxy Fold is now joining the party as well. And it is the device’s last major Android update. Launched with Android 9 Pie onboard, the foldable has already received updates to Android 10 and Android 11. Anyways, if you’re one of those early adopters of foldable smartphones and still rocking a Samsung Galaxy Fold, you can now look forward to the stable One UI 4.0 update. As always, you should receive a notification about the update once available it becomes available for your unit. You can also manually check for OTA (over the air) updates from the Settings app. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install.
