As of this writing, the April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is rolling out to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy A53 5G on T-Mobile’s network. The rollout should reach units on other carriers within a few days. The unlocked variants of the phone should also soon join the party. The new firmware version for the mid-ranger is A536USQU1AVCC. Samsung’s official changelog for the latest update for the Galaxy A53 5G mentions stability improvements to the Camera. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t provide further details. The April update for the phone in other regions also brought some camera-related improvements. These might be optimizations to the camera software for improved picture quality and user experience. In addition, the latest SMR also contains fixes for over 80 vulnerabilities. These include several critical vulnerabilities with the potential to cause severe damage to the affected devices if exploited in the wild. Some of the bugs allowed remote code execution and even remote system-level access to your device.

The Galaxy A53 5G receives the April update in the US

Launched in March, the Galaxy A53 5G is quite new to the market. If you’ve bought the phone from T-Mobile in the US, you may have received a new software update recently. But if you haven’t yet, watch out for it in the coming days. You should get a notification for the OTA (over the air) rollout. You can also manually check for updates from the phone’s Settings app. Users on other networks can also look forward to this update. The Galaxy A53 5G will receive many more software updates in its lifetime. The device is eligible for Samsung’s recently updated software support policy that says all flagship and premium mid-range Galaxy A models launched in 2022 and beyond will get four generations of Android OS updates and an additional year of security updates. Having debuted with Android 12, the Galaxy A53 5G will receive updates up to Android 16. Security updates for this phone will come until March 2027. That’s the same level of software support as the Galaxy S22 series flagships. Samsung is offering quite a value with its mid-range models here.
