Fossil Smartwatches is the company’s smartphone companion app for its smartwatches, including the Wear OS 3-powered Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition and the Diesel Griffed. It also serves as the smartphone companion for Fossil’s hybrid watches to sync notifications and track activities. In fact, the app was originally made for hybrid models, as Wear OS had a centralized app for phones. But, with Google doing away with the centralized app for Wear OS 3, Fossil moved the setup for its Wear OS watches to the app. The company regularly updates the app to iron out anomalies and bugs. But, a recent release seems to be doing more harm than good. A Reddit thread created a few days ago has many users complaining about a battery drain problem with the Fossil Smartwatches app. It is eating up more than 30% of the device’s battery power in a day, which is higher than you’d normally expect from an app that isn’t actively running in the foreground all the time. But, that isn’t the only problem. Some users say the Fossil Smartwatches app also crashes frequently, even in the background. Users have also highlighted this issue in Google Play Store reviews for the app. A user says they need to clear the app cache and app data from Settings to get it running again, unfortunately, only for it to crash a few days later. This issue also cropped up only after the latest update. Everything was fine with the previous version.
Fossil hasn’t acknowledged the reported problems with its Smartwatches app
As is usually the case with these kinds of problems, not everyone is having the battery drain and crashing issues with the Fossil Smartwatches app. It is working perfectly fine for many users.
