Health trackers are an important part of wearables and have become a selling point for these devices. Sleep tracking is also an integral part of wearables that gives meaningful insights into the quality of your sleep and the ways to improve it. Fitbit “Sleep Profiles” now wants to help you with that. Last year, tipsters reported that the Google-owned company is testing “Sleep Animals”. The feature reportedly could categorize sleep habits into six groups: Slow to Sleep Tortoise, Restless Sleep Parrot, Shallow Sleep Hedgehog, Short Sleep Giraffe, Segmented Sleep Dolphin, and Solid Sleep Bear. Fitbit has renamed “Sleep Animals” as “Sleep Profiles” and is now officially rolling it out to some of its devices. The new sleep tracking feature includes those six sleep habits. Fitbit starts to roll out the feature in the “week of July 4.”
Fitbit introduces “Sleep Profiles” for tracking sleep quality
The company says it measures 10 different metrics to determine the quality of your sleep. For example, bedtime consistency, the amount of time required to achieve “sound sleep,” and how long until sleep is disrupted. “Our research team studied 1,000 different sleep features during its analysis before distilling it down to the key metrics we include in your profile. Ranging from new metrics, including sleep schedule variability, time before sound sleep and disrupted sleep, to previously tracked metrics such as sleep duration, restfulness and REM sleep, these data points portray a holistic month-long view of your sleep patterns and quality.” Fitbit noted. Fitbit also points out that it provides each of the 10 metrics to users based on their age and gender. Then, a monthly report is given to users. The more the user wears the Fitbit tracker, the more precise data he receives. Also, Fitbit needs to monitor at least 14 nights of your sleep per month to create a sleep profile. The Fitbit “Sleep Profiles” is only available to active Premium subscribers who pay $9.99/month. Also, the feature only launches on the Fitbit Sense, Fitbit Versa 3, Fitbit Versa 2, Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit Luxe, and Fitbit Inspire 2.
