Facebook introduces Facebook Reels to combat TikTok
TikTok has taken over the internet. This prompted companies like Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat to make their own TikTok clones. The simple vertical swipe video feed seems to appeal to most people, and those companies can’t let TikTok have all the fun. Now, Facebook unveiled its own version of the TikTok platform. It’s basically Instagram Reels, but now on Facebook. Facebook has been pushing to integrate IG Reels into the Feed and get people to watch them. Now, the meta-owned company changed tactics and made its own version of Reels. Facebook will have its own vertical-scrolling video feed for better or worse.
Be prepared to see these EVERYWHERE
Just how Instagram and YouTube annoyingly put their TikTok video feeds front and center, Facebook is looking to do the same thing. Facebook is going to place its Reels into every nook and cranny of the platform starting with the feed. You’ll see them right at the top of your news feed. Along with that, the company will also show you suggested Reels in your feed. Not only that, but you’ll be able to create Reels from within Stories. It gets better; you will have the option to actually turn Stories into Reels. If you think that’s it, you’d be wrong, Facebook Watch will host Reels, even though it’s for longer videos. Last, but not least, Facebook Groups will also host Reels. It’s plain to see that Facebook wants to bombard its users with its TikTok clone. We have no idea if that will do anything to help retain its users. We can’t deny that there are about 1,001 reasons why people are leaving the platform, and TikTok isn’t exactly on the top 10 list.
Reel creators could monetize their videos
To steal creators from TikTok, Facebook will introduce monetization options for Reel creators. People will be able to use Stars to buy gifts for their favorite creators. This seems almost like Bits for Twitch. The combination of monetization options and ingraining Reels into the very DNA of Facebook is what the company hopes will turn its fortunes around.
