It makes sense that the company would do this; it got some flack for its last major price hike. Now, it’s more expensive than the other streaming services out there. Disney+ costs $7.99/month, HBO Max costs $9.99/month, Hulu costs $6.99/month, and a bunch of other services cost around that price.

But, Netflix could be bringing an ad-supported tier

The key phrase here is “could be”, as the company is currently only flirting with the idea. According to Variety, Netflix’s CFO Spencer Neumann spoke during an investor conference on Tuesday and stated that the company doesn’t currently have any plans to implement an ad-supported tier. However, he then went on to say, “It’s not like we have religion against advertising, to be clear.” This means that it’s not in the company’s best interest to have a cheaper tier, but things could possibly change sometime along the line. If there is an ad-supported Netflix tier, it could put it in closer competition with Hulu. Even Disney+ is implementing a cheaper plan later in the year.

How much does Netflix cost?

There was a recent price hike for the company, and that did upset some people. Right now, a basic plan costs $9.99/month. That doesn’t seem like too much, but there are some limitations. Firstly, you’re stuck at standard definition and you can watch it on one screen at a time. It’s good if it’s just for you. The next tier up is the $13.99/month plan. This one gives you access to two screens at the same time. Also, this plan lets you stream high-definition content. The most pricey plan is the $19.99/month plan. This one lets you watch high-definition content on up to four screens at the same time.
