The Galaxy S20 FE is picking up the latest SMR with firmware version G780FXXS8CUKA, SamMobile reports. As of this writing, the OTA (0ver the air) update is available to users in New Zealand. However, the rollout should soon expand to other regions as well. Note that this release is only for the LTE variant of the phone. The Galaxy S20 FE 5G has yet to receive the December security update anywhere. It shouldn’t be a too-long wait now though. The Galaxy XCover Pro, meanwhile, is currently receiving this month’s security update in some European countries, including Poland and Switzerland. The new firmware version for this rugged smartphone is G715FNXXS9CUL2. As with the update for the Galaxy S20 FE, you can expect this release to also hit more regions in the coming days. Samsung expectedly isn’t pushing any new features or user-facing changes to either phone with this update. It is keeping them all for the big One UI 4.0 update, which is based on Android 12. The latest release is all about privacy and security fixes. There are plenty of them though, with the company labeling several of those issues to be of critical severity.
Both Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy XCover Pro will receive the Android 12 update
Samsung is hard at work on the latest iteration of its custom Android skin, i.e. Android 12-based One UI 4.0. The company has already released the big update to the Galaxy S21 series. The likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Note 20 series, and Galaxy S20 series should be next in the pipeline. One UI 4.0 will eventually arrive on the Galaxy S20 FE and galaxy XCover Pro as well. Both devices launched last year with Android 10 onboard. They have since received the update to Android 11-based One UI 3 and are eligible for Android 12 as well. The former should also receive the Android 13 update. Nonetheless, if you’re using either of these Samsung phones, you can now be on the lookout for the December security update.
