ASUS decided to launch Android 12 beta program for the ZenFone 8
If you wonder if you can apply, the answer is… yes. Anyone who uses the ZenFone 8 can apply for this, and help the company push out the update as soon as possible. Thus far, ASUS has been running a flash-only Android 12 preview program for the ZenFone 8, but it seems like some significant progress has been made. ASUS feels that the software is more than ready for users to beta-test it. If you’d like to help ASUS test the update, you can sign up for an OTA-distributed Android 12 beta program. Simply take your ZenFone 8, and head over to the system update page in the phone’s settings. Hit the gear icon in that menu, and select “Enroll in the Beta Test Program”. This option should be available on your device at this point. If it’s not, it should become available soon.
You’ll need to create an ASUS account in order to participate
Once you tap that option, you’ll need to create an ASUS account. Once you do that, you’ll be placed on a waitlist. Do note that the enrollment period ends on October 13, so chances are ASUS won’t offer you a download until then. Do note that you decide to give up before October 13, and withdraw your application, in which can you’ll stay on the stable update. Before you do sign up to this, do note that this is beta software we’re talking about, it’s not entirely stable. Now, the ASUS ZenFone 8 runs a rather clean version of Android. ASUS’ skin is on top of it, but it looks and feels like stock Android. ASUS did add some useful features to it, but no bloatware, like it used to do in the past. This is probably what enabled the company to develop this update faster than usual.
