Before this update, users had to manually switch their audio output source on their Android device to use Chromecast. This was a hassle, especially for those who frequently switch between audio output sources. Therefore, with the new output switcher feature, users can now easily switch between audio output sources without having to go through the trouble of changing settings on their devices.
How to use the Output Switcher
To use the output switcher feature, users need to open the YouTube Music app on their Android device and select the “output switcher” option. From there, they can choose the audio output source they want to use with their Android device. The YouTube Music app’s Now Playing screen will also show a “Connect to [device]” prompt that’s pill-shaped with a colourful border and appears at the bottom of the album artwork. However, the update is yet to roll out widely. Currently, the output switcher feature is only available for YouTube Music (version 5.36.51) and Pixel devices running version 22.46.17 of Google Play services (via 9to5Google). And developers of other media playing and streaming apps need to update their apps to support the new audio output switcher with Cast compatibility. Overall, this update is a great addition for Android users, as it makes it even easier to enjoy their favourite music and other audio content on their TV or other compatible devices.
