Thanks to some digging around by the folks at 9to5Google, we’re now discovering a rehash of the stock screenshot interface for the clipboard. So whenever a Pixel user copies text or an image on Android 13 Beta 1, it automatically opens up quick actions at the bottom left of the screen. This is reminiscent of the screenshot editor tool on Pixel devices. If the copied text includes a link, it offers a quick action for launching Chrome or the phone’s default browser. Similarly, if there’s a phone number in the copied text, users can either call or text the user directly.
There’s no option to disable the clipboard editor on Android 13 Beta 1
Copying an image opens up an image editor with tools to sketch, add text, or crop the image. Users can either share the image directly from this editor or just save it to the clipboard. Unfortunately, there’s no option to disable this behavior, meaning it will appear whenever you copy text or images on a compatible Pixel. Keep this in mind if you want to try out Android 13 Beta 1. This feature certainly has its benefits, like modifying the text from an address, phone number, URL, etc. However, it would be better to make this feature opt-in rather than forcing it on all Pixel users. A visible clipboard could put users in a tough spot, especially while copying sensitive information like passwords. While its inclusion suggests that Google wants to implement this in the future, it’s not set in stone. The company may choose to do away with it entirely or at least offer an option to disable it with future betas. On the bright side, the clipboard disappears whenever the user taps any other part of the screen. So it’s not all bad. We’ve also learned that Android 13 Beta 1 includes a Face Unlock setting for the Pixel 6 Pro. Reports suggest that face unlocking will officially make its way to the Pixel 6 Pro with the next Pixel Feature Drop, possibly in June. However, Face Unlock likely won’t make it to the Pixel 5, or even the standard Pixel 6.
