Both the Surface Duo & Surface Duo 2 are now getting Android 12L
Some of you may be disappointed they didn’t get Android 13 at this point, which is understandable, but Android 12L will be quite an upgrade. As most of you know, Android 12L is made for foldables and tablets. With this update, you’re getting Google’s Material You UI, along with updated widgets, privacy improvements, and more. Microsoft also added some software goodies with this update, of course. The company added a new pen menu that can be called upon from a Surface Slim Pen 2, while you’re also getting Windows 11-style theming. We’re hoping that further bug fixes are also included in the package. Microsoft was quite obviously skipping the Android 12 update, and going straight to Android 12L for these two phones. That is mainly why we had to wait for so long for this update to arrive.
The Surface Duo 2 users will have to download more data
This update weighs 3.2GB for the Surface Duo 2, and 2.6GB for the original Microsoft Surface. The phones will let you know once the update is available, but you can always manually check, of course. This seems to be a staged rollout, so it may take a while to fully roll out. It may take from a couple of days, all the way to a couple of weeks, it all depends. In case you’re wondering when is Android 13 coming, well, we don’t know. Microsoft didn’t really mention that update at all. The company was obviously focused on delivering Android 12L, so we’ll have to wait a bit to get some Android 13 info. At least the two phones are no longer stuck on Android 11.
