The Alienware 27 gaming monitor is about beauty and practicality
There are a lot of good looking gaming monitors out there. But how many of them try to tackle both form and function with a more practical approach? Probably less than you’d think. Both the Alienware 27 and 25 go about this in similar ways. While only the 25 comes with a more space-friendly hexagonal stand, both monitors have a retractable headphone hanger. When you’re not using your headphones, the hanger pulls out from the left side of the monitor. Retaining a “clean iconic Legend 2.0 look. And when you are using your headphones the hanger slides back into its nook. You might think a hanger would be better suited for the back of the monitor. Where the headphones aren’t sitting directly next to the display you’re playing games on. But according to Alienware having the retractable hanger on the side serves both practical and Design ID reasons. Placing a hanger on the back means you’d have to reach around to grab your headphones. And depending on the depth of your desk that may not be the easiest or most comfortable thing to do. Less practical, if you will. Not to mention, a hanger on the back would be nearly impossible to use if your monitor is either wall-mounted or mounted to a monitor arm that’s close to the wall. Another thing to consider is that with the hanger, you can free up desk space by removing a headphone stand. All-in-all, a very practical design choice.
Packed with performance features for a smooth gaming experience
If you’re into smaller monitors, either of these are likely to provide you with a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience. The Alienware 25 features a 360Hz variable refresh rate (only available when using DisplayPort 1.4). Plus Alienware claims it delivers a wicked fast 0.5ms GtG response rate with FreeSync off. It’s also got an FHD IPS panel, a 400 cd/m2 peak brightness, and a 99% sRGB color coverage. The Alienware 27 on the other hand offers a 280Hz refresh rate. This does however require using overclock and DisplayPort 1.4. Without the overclocking on, the native refresh rate is 240Hz, and using HDMI 2.0 you get up to 144Hz. The monitor also supports DisplayHDR 600, NVIDIA G-Sync, and features a QHD resolution. Alienware is launching the new 25-inch monitor in the Dark Side Of The Moon colorway on September 7 for $449.99. The Alienware 27 will launch on October 6 in the Lunar Light colorway for $649.99.
